About me
I am a white, Jewish gay man, brought up in London and lived in various places such as Swansea, Manchester, Brighton, Israel and the Netherlands. Graduating from the University of Cambridge, I then trained and worked in community work and then in counselling, therapy and psychotherapy training. I have particular interests in architecture and design, politics, postmodernism and social change, travel and the Alexander Technique.
I began counselling at London Friend, an LGBT voluntary helpline service, in the early 1980s, where I was subsequently its convenor, and then served on the committee of National Friend for some years.
My core professional training is in Psychosynthesis, having graduated at the Institute of Psychosynthesis in north London where I was subsequently a training supervisor and group relations leader. From 2003 to 2010 I was employed as Director of Programmes of the Psychosynthesis & Education Trust in central London, where I continue to work as a freelance trainer and supervisor. For many years I was a community worker, freelance trainer and organisational consultant, specialising in team-building in the voluntary and arts sectors. Between 1993 and 2003 I was Head of the Student Counselling and Advisory Service of the Central School of Speech and Drama in north London.
As a Clinical Associate of Pink Therapy I have been particularly involved in the Sexual Minority Therapist accreditation scheme and run a workshop on Self-esteem Injury and Social Context.

Experience and approach
Specific experience and training:
Trained and qualified in Psychosynthesis counselling and psychotherapy. Psychosynthesis is an integrative therapeutic approach suited to dealing with most types of problems encountered in the therapy room. Originally developed by Roberto Assagioli, an Italian psychiatrist acquainted with Freud and Jung, Psychosynthesis takes in a whole-person perspective where a person's past events and life development are considered alongside issues of values, aspirations, passions and quality of human relationships. As such we integrate and make appropriate use of approaches such as Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Systems Theory, Psychoanalysis and non-western philosophies of mindfulness and meditation. Philosophically, Psychosynthesis is open to all kinds of human experience without homophobic assumptions about sexuality.
Subsequent post-qualification training and experience has been varied. I have recently trained in Lifespan Integration, a unique approach developed by Peggy Pace, and I am a qualified practitioner of the Alexander Technique. For many years I served on the national complaints committee of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I am currently Chair of Training Standards of the Humanistic and Integrative College of the United Kingdom Counselling for Psychotherapy. For many years I have also been on the board of the European Federation for Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy, I hold an MSc in Training from the University of Leicester, and for many years sat on the Quality Committee of the School of Psychology at the University of East London, as part of the role of training director of the Psychosynthesis & Education Trust.
