About me

I’m a gay man of mixed heritage. I understand the range of factors, challenges and outcomes involved in coming out, whether that’s about our sexuality, gender identity, HIV status or other important things we have not yet shared with others. In my experience coming out starts as an internal process and is an ongoing, life-long practice. It’s both a personal and a political act.

I know what it’s like to experience loss having had someone close to me die. I have had to face my own mortality through the experience of a violent, traumatic attack. I know how valuable therapy can be in supporting us to grow and to deal with often painful, life-changing experiences.

I have been drawn to working as a counsellor and psychotherapist through my own experience of therapy, and bring with me a breadth and depth of life experience from which I have learned so much. My work is my vocation, which has come into focus over time.

I work in two locations: City Therapy Rooms at Chancery Lane, and Barnsbury Therapy Rooms in Islington.

Please note I work daytimes, mostly mornings.

Experience and approach

Specific experience and training:

I am a humanistic counsellor and psychotherapist who works with adults on an individual basis. I have trained and am in ongoing professional development at Spectrum Therapy, a renowned UK humanistic psychotherapy centre. I integrate different approaches, namely Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Stanley Keleman’s Formative Psychology®.

I have completed six years’ core training at Spectrum, including the following courses:

  • Oxford Cambridge and RSA Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Spectrum Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Spectrum One Year Course in Psychotherapy
  • Spectrum Post-Graduate Course in Psychotherapy
  • Basic, Intermediate, & Advanced Sexuality
  • Childhood Sexual Abuse – Occurrence and Prevention
  • Developing Clinical Skills

I am committed to my own professional development through ongoing training and learning. I have individual and group therapy for my own personal growth and wellbeing. I have regular supervision with a UKCP-accredited supervisor to support my professional practice, and I hold professional indemnity insurance.

I have worked in the statutory and voluntary sector in health and social care settings and community development. I’ve worked with older people, people who have had strokes and people with HIV/AIDS. I originally went to art college and now also work supporting students affected by mental health problems and disabled students. I have worked as a volunteer counsellor at the West London Centre for Counselling.
