| Specific Training and Experience: I have worked for several years with sexual minority clients in both paid employment as a counsellor and as a teacher n Higher and Adult Education, and in a voluntary capacity (rape crisis counselling, Samaritans). This has included working closely with transgender people (both M to F and F to M) on issues related to transitioning, and more general counselling. I teach courses and lead/facilitate seminars and workshops on gender and sexuality issues and awareness and have researched and teach aspects of lesbian and transgender history. I am active in both social and political LGBTQ activities at local/regional level. In my personal life, I am a lesbian who attempted to be a 'proper woman' and live as an heterosexual for several years when younger, due to unresolved gender and sexuality issues. I 'came out' as lesbian when I was in my early 30s and have lived as a lesbian from that point. During the last few years I have been exploring aspects of my gender identity and now identify myself as 'trans/genderqueer' - I am biologically female, do not intend on transition (at least at present) but do regard myself as 'transgender' or 'genderqueer' rather than female. |
