About me
Prior to training as a counsellor and subsequently as a psychotherapist, I was a classroom teacher for sixteen years with children and then with adolescents at Hackney College. It was during that time that I decided it would help me to work more effectively with the young people that I taught if I learned some counselling skills. I quickly realised that working with individuals was what I wanted to do. Having qualified initially at the Westminster Pastoral Foundation as a Jungian counsellor I then went on to do further trainings in Cognitive Analytic Therapy, NLP, one year's group work at the Institute of Group Analysis and two years at Physis as an integrative therapist, I continue to update my practice by ongoing further training, in particular Family Constellations, Couples work with Schleifer Associates, working with the Trans community, and much else besides. During this time I was also involved in developing a therapeutic counselling training at Anglia Ruskin University, where I set up and ran the first B.Sc in Therapeutic Counselling based on Ken Wilber's 4-Quadrant model until 2008. I was also a trainer on the Alternatives to Violence Project from 1993 to 2007 and have co-facilitated many workshops on anger management and working with conflict both in the community and within a number of prisons in the UK. I continue to run courses wherever I am asked, for example working with older people across the gender and sexual diversity spectrum, team-building workshops for St Mary's Church in Maldon. I am paticularly interested in suporting individuals and couples, who find themselves discriminated against as a result of cultural differences, disability, race and class.

Experience and approach
Specific experience and training:
My original training was as a Jungian counsellor. Since then I have continued to develop my therapeutic experience through courses encompassing integrative, transpersonal and cognitive analytic approaches. Most recently I have completed training courses as a couples therapist and working with Trans-identified individuals.
|
Therapies Practiced:
Counselling, Psychotherapy, Supervision/Consultation.
|
Specialisms and interests:
I am particularly interested in supporting individuals and couples, who have experienced prejudice of one kind or another as a result of trans-cultural prejudices, living with disability and questioning their gender dysphoria. I have many years of experience working with people, who have been abused, are having relationship difficulties or are feeling confused about where their lives are going and/or are coping with loss. I work relationally with the whole person, which includes making sense both of their individual experiences and their relationship patterns as well as the cultures within which they have lived their lives. In sum I see myself as a transpersonal therapist, who is interested in all aspects of life as it impacts on us.
