About me

If you have come across my profile because you’re facing a challenging time right now, I would love the opportunity to support you in beginning your journey to creating the changes you hope for.

Maybe your relationship feels strained or work is making you anxious. You might find yourself replaying situations or events from the past, unsure of how to move forward. Life might feel boring, your relationships may feel unfulfilling. Perhaps you compare yourself to friends or co-workers and feel like you are failing. Maybe you consider yourself to have low self-esteem but don’t really know how to become more confident.

I offer confidential face to face counselling to adults from my therapy room based in central Middlesbrough that focuses on overcoming depression, bereavement, gender and sexuality issues, low-mood, anxiety, dissatisfaction. Transforming low self-esteem, confidence and self-worth as well as exploring problematic and unhelpful habits and patterns.

Experience and approach

Specific experience and training:

I am a fully qualified and BACP registered psychotherapeutic counsellor. I trained at the Northern Guild for Psychotherapy, which is one of the leading training institutes in the region.

I am a person-centred therapist who will tune in to you and your story to understand how you feel and determine what it is you need from therapy in order to achieve your goals.

My core training is in Transactional Analysis (TA) and this forms the theoretical framework for the therapy that I offer. I use TA as a versatile theory to look at people's behaviours and relationships; working under the idea that each individual is valuable and has the capacity for positive change and personal growth. I integrate this theory with ideas and tools from the person-centred, creative, developmental and attachment based approaches such as; Gestalt Therapy, Erikson's Developmental Theory and Attachment Theory.

I offer both short and longer term therapy and most of my experience has been gained working in NHS settings as well as private counselling services with people over a number of weeks, months or years to really understand the root of their problems, so as to create lasting, positive transformations.

I enjoy allowing for the process to develop naturally and in a way that reflects the individual. With me, you will be allowed the freedom to truly follow your own process; discovering your authentic self and implementing the changes that you seek at your own pace and in your own way, which really is the key to true, long lasting healing.

If you'd like to explore working with me further, I recommend we start by speaking over the phone or if you prefer, meeting for an initial consultation session. You can arrange these by emailing me.

If you'd like to know more about me before contacting me, perhaps you're interested in why I became a counsellor or how I work, then please visit my website; www.karlalexander.co.uk to learn more.

Specialisms and interests:

In order to help you to meet your goals I need to understand what it's like to be you, to understand how you think, feel and how you see yourself. To do this I'll warmly welcome you in to a friendly, comfortable and safe space where I can ask you some questions about you and your life.

In my practice I use tools from my training as an integrative practitioner, with Transactional Analysis being my core model alongside other person-centred and creative approaches to figure out a way of working that is best suited to you, who you are and what you bring to the session.

If reading this you feel like I might be the right counsellor for you and you are interested in the way I work and would like to find out if this way suits you, the next step is to email me to organise a free initial phone call or book a half price initial face-to-face session. This will then give us the opportunity to meet, test the waters and explore any questions you might have. there is no obligation to enter into therapy with me; you are welcome to use this as an opportunity to work out what you want and need.

I look forward to hearing from you.
