Notes and planning
Reviewing notes, preparing for each session and considering the next steps in your work.
All therapists in the Pink Therapy Directory are independent practitioners and set their own fees. You can usually find fee information on each therapist’s profile.
There is no single price for good therapy. Costs vary according to location, experience, qualifications, specialist knowledge and whether sessions take place online or in person.
Fees can vary according to:
A higher fee does not necessarily mean a better therapist for you, and a lower fee may not offer better value in the long run. Relevant experience, therapeutic approach and feeling comfortable with the person you choose all matter.
Although therapy is often described using an hourly rate, your fee supports the professional work that makes each session ethical, safe and effective.
Reviewing notes, preparing for each session and considering the next steps in your work.
Reflecting on therapeutic work with a suitably qualified professional supervisor.
Maintaining professional memberships, registrations and appropriate insurance cover.
Secure platforms, data protection, ICO registration, administration and continuing professional development.
When time and money are limited, you should not have to spend your sessions educating a therapist about your identity, lived experience or the nuances of gender, sex and relationship diversity.
Working with a therapist who already has relevant knowledge can mean spending more of your session doing the work you came to therapy to do.
There is no straightforward answer because every person and every therapeutic need is different. Some people arrive with a clear, specific focus and complete the work over a relatively short period. Others find longer-term exploratory therapy more useful, and your needs can change as you go.
If cost is an important consideration, talk about it with your therapist. You can discuss weekly or fortnightly sessions, occasional check-ins or another arrangement that works for you.
Some therapists offer sliding-scale fees, which may be noted on their profile. Others arrange pricing individually, while some charge one standard fee. It is always okay to email and ask.
